Minnesota Supreme Court Orders Expanded Camera Access in Courtrooms

In what the Star Tribune called "a seismic ruling," the Minnesota Supreme Court recently expanded camera and audio courtroom access during criminal trials.

Media and Entertainment Law Partner Leita Walker and Associates Emmy Parsons and Isabella Salomão Nascimento were instrumental in the final push of the decades-long fight to improve access. They worked to gain media outlets access to two high-profile trials that served as exceptions to recording restrictions, and Ms. Walker testified in favor of expanded access before the state supreme court.

"It gives the press an opportunity to bring cameras in and to normalize them and to show that the sky does not fall," she told the Star Tribune. "In fact, confidence and trust in the system grows when you let people watch the justice system."
