Jason Leckerman Named Chair of Litigation Department at Ballard Spahr
Jason A. Leckerman—who advises clients nationwide in antitrust and competition, commercial, and product liability matters—has been named Chair of Ballard Spahr’s Litigation Department, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced today.
As Litigation Chair, Mr. Leckerman will lead the firm’s largest department, comprising more than 250 litigators across all 15 firm offices nationwide. Ballard Spahr is known for the strength and experience of its litigation team, with its lawyers regularly recognized by Chambers USA and Best Lawyers in America.
Firm litigators handle cases ranging from securities class actions and complex commercial litigation to contractual disputes and federal and state appeals. Litigation clients include industry-leading businesses across sectors such as retail and fashion, manufacturing, and financial services, in areas that span the litigation spectrum, including antitrust, white-collar defense and internal investigations, labor and employment, securities litigation, and dozens more.
Mr. Leckerman regularly handles complex litigation for Fortune 100 companies and obtains government antitrust clearance for multimillion-dollar transactions. He also serves as Partner-in-Charge of the Philadelphia office litigation mentoring program and Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s annual United Way Campaign. He previously acted as Hiring Partner.
Mr. Leckerman maintains a thriving pro bono practice. Since joining the firm, he has participated in more than 100 pro bono matters, ranging from civil rights cases to immigration matters to Social Security disability matters, and has logged nearly 2000 hours of pro bono service. Mr. Leckerman further serves the community by sitting on the boards of directors of Philadelphia Legal Assistance and Community Legal Services.
Mr. Leckerman succeeds Geoffrey A. Kahn—a Partner with nearly 40 years’ experience with complex commercial litigation matters—who has led the department since 2015. During his tenure, Mr. Kahn oversaw significant growth of the department, including the addition of two dozen First Amendment and media law attorneys through the firm’s 2017 merger with boutique firm Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz and the addition of six attorneys from Los Angeles-based media firm Leopold, Petrich & Smith.
“Under Geoff’s leadership, our litigation capabilities have grown tremendously,” said Mr. Stewart. “I am confident that they will continue to grow with Jason’s guidance. Even in his early years as an Associate, Jason took on leadership roles and demonstrated exceptional dedication, patience, and insight. His experience has undoubtedly left him more than prepared to take on this new role.”
