Experience

Representative Matters

Internal Investigations and Independent Reviews

  • Hank has extensive experience conducting internal investigations for companies—public and private, large and small—as well as for governmental, municipal, and private entities. His work includes investigations in response to such allegations as FCPA violations, health care fraud, insider trading, antitrust matters (price-fixing and anti-poaching), campaign finance improprieties, tax fraud, defense procurement/government contracting fraud, accounting fraud, consumer protection, and many others.
  • Led the investigation into the City of Philadelphia’s response to civil unrest following the death of George Floyd in 2020. The report—which received national media attention and involved scores of interviews and the review of 7,500 pages of records—revealed crucial flaws in planning, preparation, and response by the City and served as the basis for across-the-board improvements and improved communication with the community.
  • Engaged by the City of Phoenix in an independent investigation focused on the culture and practices of the Phoenix Police Department. The investigation began after “challenge coins” commemorating the shooting of a protester were shared and sold by members of the department. It expanded to include the department’s role in bringing gang charges against a group of protesters.
  • Conducted an internal investigation for Lower Merion (PA) School District involving federal and state invasion of privacy and civil rights claims arising from the school district's use of remote monitoring technology in computers issued to students. Represented the district in all related civil litigation and regulatory inquiries. No criminal charges were filed.
