Ballard Spahr Among Top Firms Nationally for Percentage of Female Equity Partners: Law360 Report

August 31, 2023

Ballard Spahr ranks seventh among the nation’s largest law firms for percentage of equity partners that are female, according to the recently released Law360 Pulse 2023 Women In Law Report.

By ranking among the top 10 in its category—for the largest firms, those with more than 600 attorneys—Ballard Spahr earned Law360 designation as a “Ceiling Smasher,” with women comprising 30.6% of the firm’s single-tier partnership. The accolade recognizes Ballard Spahr for the success of its efforts to break the “glass ceiling” that has historically prevented women from attaining leadership roles, and for “demonstrating that strides towards gender parity at the upper ranks are possible.” The Law360 Pulse 2023 Women In Law Report is based on surveys of hundreds of law firms of all sizes.

Ballard Spahr provides professional development support to bolster the trajectory of women into key participation and leadership roles, both within the firm and externally. In addition to the leading equity partnership percentage, women comprise 45% of the firm’s Elected Board, 50% of legal department chair positions, and 36%—including 18% women of color—of the firm’s Allocation Committee.

Ballard Spahr provides a wide range of networking, sponsorship, and mentoring programs for women at all career levels. Through the Ballard Women business resource group, led by New Jersey-based Partner Holly V. Horsley, Los Angeles-based Partner Siobhan O'Donnell Sachs, Minneapolis-based Associate Sarah B. Dannecker, and New York-based Associate Catherine I. Seibel, the firm develops and retains the next generation of successful women lawyers and law firm leaders.
