Bertilio “Lio” Correa, Jr. is an associate in the Litigation Department who focuses his practice on environmental and natural resource matters. As a summer associate at Ballard Spahr, Lio began developing a subject matter expertise in administrative law, land use regulation, and federal environmental statutes. Lio is continually expanding his knowledge to advise clients with all their environmental needs, from litigation to regulatory compliance to due diligence.
Prior to beginning his legal career, Lio was an enlisted sailor in the U.S. Navy, where he managed maintenance projects for an aircraft carrier during a scheduled dry dock. In this role, he oversaw 800 work authorizations for 10 government contracting agencies across six military departments, ensured adherence to task group instructions and budgetary constraints, and tracked project progress and performance. Lio was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Top Four Percent Superior Performance Award, and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
