Ballard Spahr's Delaware office is located in the heart of Wilmington, the nation's corporate capital. The office, which opened in 2002, advises clients in the areas of bankruptcy and reorganization, public finance, commercial litigation, government and corporate investigations, consumer financial services, securities litigation, commercial finance, bank regulation, and white collar defense.

Most Fortune 500 companies are incorporated in Delaware, and Ballard Spahr attorneys handle a large volume of corporate governance litigation matters before Delaware courts. Locally, our public finance attorneys have advised every major bond issuer (including all three counties), municipality, hospital, and higher educational facility in the State of Delaware. And as Delaware continues to grow as a consumer finance hub, we represent those clients in the development of new products, in issues involving regulatory compliance, and in litigation.

At Ballard Spahr, we believe our clients are best served by innovative solutions that spring from varied viewpoints and perspectives. We are committed to creating a vibrant community where people of all backgrounds can thrive. Partners in the Delaware office have been recognized for their leadership and commitment to advancing diversity in the legal profession. Their accolades include the inaugural Hinton J. Lucas, Jr., Torchbearer Award from DuPont and the Pennsylvania Diversity Council's Leadership Excellence in Law Award. The Delaware office also supports local pipeline initiatives that attract diverse students to careers in law.

Pro bono service is a hallmark of the firm, and our Delaware attorneys devote hundreds of hours to pro bono cases every year. They serve as court-appointed special advocates in Delaware Family Court, participate in a program that offers free tax preparation for low-income Delaware residents, and visit local schools to educate students about the court system and legal careers through the host estate-planning clinics for first responders and veterans through the Wills for Heroes nonprofit organization.
