Ballard Spahr Adds Nicole Soraruf to Growing National Real Estate Finance Practice
As transaction activity increases and strong demand continues in sectors including industrial and logistics and multifamily housing, Ballard Spahr is bringing even more depth to its nationally recognized real estate finance practice with the addition of Nicole Necklas Soraruf, an experienced finance attorney who focuses on real estate transactions.
With more than a decade of experience, Ms. Soraruf advises on real estate financings for a variety of clients, including lenders and companies across industries. She joins Ballard Spahr as of counsel and a member of the Real Estate Finance Group within the firm’s national Finance Department. She will be based in the Baltimore office, a focal point of the firm’s real estate finance practice. Ballard Spahr’s Maryland-based attorneys have played central roles in many of the region’s most prominent real estate financing and development projects, including the transformative 235-acre Port Covington mixed-use community in Baltimore.
“Nicole’s skills and experience dovetail perfectly with our finance platform and our clients’ needs,” said Thomas A. Hauser, Baltimore-based co-leader of the Real Estate Finance Group. “Our practice continues to be very active, and we anticipate continued growth through year-end and 2022. Nicole is a talented attorney, a great fit for our firm and practice, and someone who will help us to continue to deliver high quality and exceptional legal services to our clients.”
Ms. Soraruf negotiates, structures, drafts, and reviews real estate finance transactions and related documentation, as well as corporate resolutions and other governance documents. She has reviewed and analyzed insurance and performed due diligence for transactions involving real estate, aircraft, and other assets. Leading legal industry research service The Best Lawyers in America named Nicole to its lists of 2021 and 2022 “Ones to Watch” in Banking and Finance Law.
The lawyers in Ballard Spahr’s Real Estate Finance Group advise clients in structuring, documenting, closing, servicing, restructuring, and enforcing real estate debt and equity transactions nationwide. With more than 85 attorneys based in key metro markets throughout the country, the Group’s work includes some of the largest and most high-profile U.S. development projects, such as The River District, a $1 billion effort that will transform the Mississippi Riverfront in New Orleans.
“Ballard’s reputation as one of the best firms in the country for real estate finance work, and its roster of prominent clients in the space were a definite draw,” Ms. Soraruf said. “Add in the high-quality people and culture of collaboration, and I was sold on the firm as a great place for the next phase of my career.”
