“Coerced debt” refers to situations where individuals are forced or manipulated into incurring financial obligations without meaningful consent, often in the context of domestic abuse or exploitation. Historically, legal remedies for victims have been limited and inconsistent.

New York has now enacted a first-of-its-kind statute establishing a framework for individuals to challenge liability for debts incurred under coercion.

This webinar will explore:

  • The concept of coerced debt and its growing recognition in law and policy
  • The key provisions and practical implications of New York’s new statute
  • Developments in other states, including enacted laws and proposed legislation
  • Operational and compliance considerations for financial institutions

This webinar will be of interest to attorneys, debt collectors, debt buyers, compliance professionals, financial institutions, consumer advocates, and policymakers.

We hope you can join us for this timely and important discussion.

This program is approved for 1.5 CLE credits in CA, NV, NY, & PA; and 1.8 NJ. CO CLE is pending. Uniform Certificates of Attendance will also be provided for the purpose of seeking credit in other jurisdictions.
