Commercial Litigator Scott Humphreys Rejoins Ballard Spahr in Los Angeles

September 7, 2022

Scott S. Humphreys—a versatile litigator with wide-ranging experience handling complex commercial, product liability, and intellectual property matters for clients across industries—has rejoined Ballard Spahr as a partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced today.

Mr. Humphreys returns to Ballard Spahr after serving as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for a biotech startup. As a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group, he will litigate matters in California federal and state courts, as well as other courts across the country.

Said Jason A. Leckerman, Chair of the firm’s Litigation Department: “Scott has been a go-to litigator for clients in California and nationally. His varied experience, practical approach, and track record of success have served our clients well over the years. We are excited to have him back.”

Mr. Humphreys’ experience includes handling a billion-dollar case in the automotive sector, a 1,000-plus-plaintiff toxic tort action, high-profile media and entertainment litigation, a trade secret case involving an aerospace rocket startup, and complex franchise litigation. He also has defended Fortune 500 companies in product liability cases, worked with major financial institutions, and litigated a variety of intellectual property cases, including trade secret, false advertising, and trademark and copyright infringement matters.

“Ballard Spahr combines national strength with a culture that is values-driven and value-oriented. It’s great to be back,” Mr. Humphreys said. “I handle a wide variety of litigation matters, so the practice range was a big draw as well. I look forward to resuming my practice and bringing my experience to the team.”
