The rise of cryptocurrencies and the current frenzy around blockchain technology have enormous implications for the legal community, both in terms of criminal/regulatory enforcement and the negotiation, application, and enforcement of private contracts.

Partner Margie Peerce, a founding leader of the firm's Blockchain Technology and Cryptocurrency team, and panelists will provide an overview of cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) – what they are, how they came about, how they are being used, and how they are being regulated. They also will discuss how cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology provide innovative and efficient ways of transacting and investing, but may present new risks to investors and businesses, how ICOs and cryptocurrencies fit into the legal and regulatory framework governing securities and commodities, and what the emergence of "smart contracts" means for lawyers.
