David L. Zive is a commercial real estate finance attorney with over three decades of experience representing national and local banks, institutional and private lenders, and real estate developers and other real estate owners and investors at all stages of the credit life cycle involving the origination, restructuring, and workout of permanent loans, bridge loans, construction loans, mezzanine loans, and preferred equity investments. Additionally, he counsels lenders, servicers, and investors in connection with the disposition and acquisition of distressed commercial loans. David also has significant experience in other aspects of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, and leasing.
Prior to joining Ballard Spahr, David was senior in-house counsel with PNC Bank, National Association, where he provided strategic business and legal advice to corporate, commercial, and real estate banking business partners in all aspects of commercial loan workouts, reorganizations, modifications, settlements, enforcements, and bankruptcies. He also advised capital markets partners in the marketing and sale of over $3 billion in distressed and non-distressed commercial debt, covering all aspects of commercial loan sale transactions.
David also served as Vice President and Director of Legal of Resource Real Estate, a diversified real estate investment and asset management firm, where he managed the legal affairs of a $150 million distressed commercial loan and real estate portfolio. He also managed the legal affairs of a $1 billion commercial mortgage loan portfolio for an affiliated publicly traded Real Estate Investment Trust.
