Alex Sellke is a Minneapolis real estate attorney with a broad foundation in all aspects of commercial real estate and has a strong track record of leadership in executing complex and transformative real estate development projects on behalf of his clients.

In particular, Alex focuses on redevelopment projects that seek to address affordable housing issues and that otherwise simultaneously create economic value and enhance the public good. In this regard, Alex counsels various private and public stakeholders in all phases of real estate project development, financing, construction, ownership, and management.

 

Experience 

Representative Matters

  • Represented housing and redevelopment authority and private affordable housing foundation in Minneapolis suburb providing financial support to affordable housing development project through tax increment financing, deferred loans, grants, and long-term ground leases
  • Lead counsel for major mixed-used development project in Minneapolis North Loop neighborhood
  • Negotiated joint venture agreement on behalf of developer for equity financing of a new $480 million, 37-story tower in Minneapolis, Minnesota with luxury condominiums, five-star hotel, and first-class office space
  • Assisted developer with the development, construction, and build-to-suit lease for a new corporate headquarters on 40-acres in suburban Saint Paul, Minnesota
  • Served as counsel to industrial property investors in acquisition and financing of value-add, multi-site industrial portfolios in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Indiana
  • Led new China-based manufacturer through process of acquiring greenfield site in North Carolina for new manufacturing facility and negotiation of related economic incentives

  • Assisted nonprofit organization in the development of a housing shelter to further its mission of addressing instances of homelessness
  • Supported community development financial institution in connection with providing immigrant entrepreneurs financing to open new businesses
  • Worked with group of churches to successfully challenge unconstitutional road maintenance fees
