Derek Huish is an associate in the firm’s national Litigation Department who focuses his practice on commercial litigation and dispute resolution. Prior to joining Ballard Spahr, he worked at a Chambers-ranked, multinational law firm, where he assisted clients around the world on various complex commercial cases, with a particular emphasis on intellectual property litigation and damages-related issues. In this role, Derek gained significant experience in all stages of litigation, including jury trials.
Derek also served three years as a judicial law clerk, first in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa and later in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah.

- Represented a market leading camera company in design patent litigation against a Chinese competitor, which resulted in a finding of design patent infringement before the International Trade Commission (ITC)
- Represented a multinational vehicle manufacturer in patent litigation, overseeing discovery and motions that led to the exclusion of the plaintiff’s expert’s nine figure damages opinion
- Represented a multinational electronics manufacturer in patent litigation relating to Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) technologies
