Helen Hitz is an associate in the firm’s Litigation Department who focuses her practice on commercial litigation and dispute resolution. Helen routinely assists with navigating disputes involving contracts, distressed assets, and the enforcement of financial and real estate agreements. Her practice also includes defending white collar investigations and handling cases involving tribal law.
Helen was a Ballard Spahr summer associate in 2023. Prior to joining the firm, she gained experience in litigation and advocacy while externing with the Office of the Arizona Governor, the United States House of Representatives, the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office, and a nonprofit lobbying organization in her home state of Nebraska. These roles helped shape her commitment to public service and continue to inform her active pro bono practice, which includes public records advocacy, legal support for nonprofit organizations, and name change assistance for LGBTQ+ individuals.
As an undergraduate, Helen served as the elected student body president and one of only two student representatives on her college’s board of trustees. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, she advocated for student interests and successfully influenced university leadership, an experience that honed her skills in strategic advocacy and effective communication under pressure.
