Laura Grant is a Litigation associate who focuses her practice on commercial litigation and dispute resolution. Prior to joining Ballard Spahr, she worked at an Am Law 100 firm, where she researched and drafted appellate briefs, dispositive motions, discovery motions, requests, and responses, and deposition outlines. Laura has also argued successful motions, deposed and defended expert witnesses at deposition, and provided second-chair support for fact witness interviews, depositions, and trials. She has investigated mortgage fraud and located debtor assets worth millions in judgment collection actions.
Laura refined her research and writing skills through judicial internships at the Supreme Court of Maryland, where she researched complex legal issues involving property disputes, election law, and tort claims acts, and at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), where she drafted findings for discrimination claims. She served as a Rule 19 student attorney in the University of Baltimore’s Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, advocating for clients in tax controversies before the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Tax Court, and the Comptroller of Maryland, eliminating multiple erroneous tax obligations. During law school, she also served as associate editor of University of Baltimore Law Forum and competed in several moot court competitions, earning high marks for her oral advocacy and a best brief award for her appellate writing.
Prior to law school, Laura gained additional experience as an investigator and case assistant for a professional malpractice law firm, and as an investigator and legal assistant for an employment law firm, both based in Portland. In these roles, she interviewed clients and witnesses, analyzed medical and employment records, and wrote detailed case strategy reports. She also drafted defensive responses to professional licensing boards and prepared business formation documents. Before beginning her law career, Laura worked in regulatory compliance for a multinational biopharmaceutical company.
