Jennifer L. Feden has a wide-ranging real estate practice through which she assists clients with all aspects of their transactional real estate needs, with a particular focus on both landlord- and tenant-side leasing work across the retail, office and industrial sectors. During her time at Ballard, she has represented businesses, real estate investors, developers, and lenders in all stages of complex real estate transactions, including the acquisition, disposition, financing and development of retail, industrial, office, multifamily and condominium properties. Jennifer also has experience representing clients with the real estate aspects of corporate transactions, including large, high-profile mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.

Experience 

Representative Matters

  • Represented a Fortune 100 international company as U.S. real estate counsel in connection with a substantive merger and subsequent formation of three standalone companies to continue the operation of the merged businesses. Work involved complex review, analysis, preparation and negotiation of all real estate documents for properties included in the merger, including ground leases, space leases and access agreements, and close collaboration with the M&A team for the transaction.
  • Represents the master concessionaire for the food and beverage and retail operations at the Philadelphia Airport, including directly negotiating space leases for vendors as part of the expansive retail program at the Airport and managing a team of attorneys to ensure consistency and seamless workflow in the leasing and negotiation process.
  • Represents a developer in connection with the assemblage, financing and redevelopment of a 4 million square foot mixed use development in Philadelphia, including property acquisitions, entity structuring, multiple tiers of public and private financing, and management of community and governmental relationships

Pro Bono Experience

Jennifer has represented pro bono clients in diverse matters, including negotiating leases and other real estate agreements on behalf of local arts and culture organizations, representing property owners in civil forfeiture actions, representing a fire company in the divestiture of a property, representing a client in asylum proceedings, and assisting a client in becoming a United States citizen. Jennifer was a recipient of Ballard Spahr’s Alan J. Davis Pro Bono Award in 2019 for her role as part of a team of attorneys who worked in collaboration with the Southern Poverty Law Center to meet the legal needs of immigrant asylum-seekers being detained in remote locations in rural Georgia.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Jennifer spent three years working as a development officer for the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization focused on First Amendment issues.
