Erin M. Carter assists clients in a variety of environmental litigation matters and provides counsel on regulatory and transactional matters. She is a member of the firm’s Environment and Natural Resources Practice Group and the firm’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Group. Erin has represented clients in complex environmental litigation, with an emphasis on Superfund cost recovery and contribution actions. She also assists clients in the management of environmental risks associated with acquisitions and divestitures. Erin advises clients on permitting and regulatory matters, including Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, California's Prop 65, and emerging matters related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Representative Matters

Environmental Enforcement and Litigation

  • Routinely represents clients at multi-party Superfund sites and Superfund cost allocations.
  • Represents chemical companies in New Jersey defending claims under the New Jersey Spill Act and under the Industrial Sites Recovery Act.
  • Represents a chemical manufacturer in multi-party Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO) cost allocation.
  • Represents an energy company in Pennsylvania defending the appeal of the company’s installation air permit for a natural gas facility. 

Professional Highlights

Pro Bono Experience

Erin serves as pro bono counsel for a non-profit expanding access to reproductive services. Erin also participates in the Pardon Project, assisting clients in the preparation of Pardon Applications to be submitted to the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons.
