Ballard Spahr's Shannon Farmer Featured in Emmy-Awarded Shows

Two American Law Journal television programs featuring Ballard Spahr labor and employment Partner Shannon D. Farmer received Emmy awards Saturday night at an awards gala in Philadelphia.

Both shows were nominated in the Interview/Discussion Program/Special category of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Mid-Atlantic Chapter. One program, “Wage, Hour & Overtime: What's 'Fair Pay' Today?” explored the new challenges facing employers and employees in the workplace. The other, “Transgender at Work: The EEOC, Supreme Court and LGBT Rights on the Job,” addressed the issues involving transgender people in the workplace.

The award for this category recognizes “excellence in a program or special consisting of interview/discussion material that is at least 75% unscripted.” Ms. Farmer, who advises employers on wage and overtime issues and employment matters, was interviewed for the programs.

Ms. Farmer represents employers in a range of labor matters. She conducts collective bargaining negotiations and interest arbitrations, defends employers in civil rights claims, and provides advice and training related to employment policies and other HR needs. She recently co-led a team of about 30 Philadelphia city officials in negotiations with the city’s largest union, which led to a four-year contract with the city's 7,900 blue-collar workers.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Mid-Atlantic Chapter covers the fourth largest TV market in the country. It is composed of 45 stations with 17 network affiliates and five PBS stations.
