Aviation Attorney Brett Seifarth Lands at Ballard Spahr as Partner in Corporate Group

February 11, 2026

Brett J. Seifarth—a corporate and finance lawyer who focuses on representing aviation industry clients on transactional matters involving commercial and business aircraft—has joined Ballard Spahr in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office, firm Chair Peter Michaud announced today.

Brett joins as a partner in Ballard Spahr’s Business and Transactions Department, as well as the firm’s Corporate Group and Transportation & Logistics Industry Team. He brings more than a decade of experience advising on complex domestic and cross-border commercial aviation transactions, including portfolio acquisitions and dispositions, operating leases, finance leases, lease novation, sale-leasebacks, secured debt financings, and asset-backed securitizations. Brett also represents companies, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals on business aviation matters, including the purchase, sale, and financing of business aircraft and issues related to aircraft ownership and operating structures.

Brett’s experience includes serving as in-house counsel for one of the world’s largest aerospace companies. He joins Ballard Spahr almost exactly a year after the firm added a premier national aviation law practice through its combination with Lane Powell, which also added firm offices in Seattle, Anchorage, and Portland, Oregon.

“Brett joins our firm at an opportune time for our aviation industry clients, in a market full of both opportunities and challenges,” Peter said. “Brett has the experience with high-stakes transactions to help clients close deals that strengthen their businesses. His addition in D.C. gives us even more nationwide breadth in aviation.”

Brett counsels a variety of aviation industry stakeholders, including leasing companies, financial institutions, equity investors, rating agencies, private equity funds, hedge funds, issuers, and servicers, on all aspects of aviation finance and leasing transactions, and represents aircraft manufacturers on fleet sales, finance, and supply chain matters. He also has experience advising creditors, independent directors, and investors on airline bankruptcies, repossessions, restructurings/workouts, and distressed-asset transactions.

“I’m thrilled to join Ballard’s team of skilled practitioners with deep sector knowledge and experience across various practice areas,” Brett said. “I’m excited to play a pivotal role in expanding Ballard’s aviation capabilities and contribute to the aviation practice as a strategic area of strength to offer clients.”
