Media Coalition Pushes Back on FAA's Part 108 Rule, Citing Threats to Press Freedom

Charles D. Tobin, partner in Ballard Spahr's Media and Entertainment Law Practice Group, spoke with Drone Life regarding the Federal Aviation Administration's part 108 rule adding restrictions to usage of Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drones. Nearly two dozen major news media organizations have raised concerns that the proposed rule could impede journalists who use drones for their reporting.

"Journalists cover news where it happens; in crowded areas, in rural areas, and in areas in between," Chuck said. "We would like the FAA to take another look at where the news media might be able to operate and not limit us to such a low-density area."
