Ballard Spahr’s Emilie Ninan Named Trailblazer by The Bond Buyer and Northeast Women in Public Finance

Ballard Spahr Partner Emilie R. Ninan—a bond lawyer who serves as Co-Chair of the firm’s Finance Department—has been named a Private Sector Trailblazer by The Bond Buyer and Northeast Women in Public Finance.

The recognition is a nod to the industry’s most influential women, whose extraordinary accomplishments are redefining the public and private finance landscape. Ms. Ninan is one of six women nationwide to be honored as a 2020 Private Sector Trailblazing Woman in Public Finance.

Ms. Ninan’s legal practice has driven economic development through the financing of educational institutions, utility systems, manufacturing, affordable housing, and health care facilities. As Finance Department Co-Chair at Ballard Spahr, Ms. Ninan oversees strategic direction and financial performance of the department’s 110 attorneys across the country. She is also a member of the firm’s Expanded Board.

In addition to her leadership roles at the firm, Ms. Ninan also has assumed integral leadership roles in the Delaware and D.C. communities. Ms. Ninan has been recognized for her deep commitment to advancing the professional development of female attorneys and attorneys of color through mentoring, networking, and organizational leadership.

Earlier this year, Ms. Ninan was awarded the Private Sector Trailblazer Award by the South Asian Bar Association of Washington, D.C. Previously, Ms. Ninan was the first woman to serve as Chair of Ballard Spahr’s Public Finance Group, which has participated in the issuance of more than $1 trillion in tax-exempt obligations spanning every U.S. state and territory. She also is the former Office Managing Partner of the firm’s Wilmington, Delaware office, a former board member of the Mid-Atlantic Women in Public Finance, was profiled by Law360 as a Female Powerbroker, and named an Influential Woman in Business by Delaware Today.
