Consumer Bureau Dropping Lawsuits but States are Filling the Gap, Lawyers Say

States are increasingly hiring attorneys to strengthen their consumer law enforcement divisions as The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) continues to scale back its enforcement activity.
"There’s nothing really happening at the CFPB right now in the way of new investigations. All the activity is at the state level," said Alan S. Kaplinsky, Co-Practice Leader of the firm's Consumer Financial Services Group. "Net-net, I feel that there’s as much going on as there has been all along."
