Anatomy of Bank Failure
Scott Coleman, a partner in Ballard Spahr’s Banking and Financial Services team and the Distressed Financial Institutions and Counterparties component of the firm’s Distressed Assets and Opportunities Initiative, and Sarah Dannecker, an associate in the firm’s Business and Transactions Department who focuses her practice on bank mergers and acquisitions and regulatory matters, will discuss why and how banks fail, the steps the FDIC takes when a bank fails, and the systemic significance of certain bank failures. Scott and Sarah will also address what happened in the case of Silicon Valley Bank and other recently failed banks and the impact those failures have on bank customers and the various classes of claimants against the failed banks.
