The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Maryland, represented by Ballard Spahr’s Steven R. Johnson and Timothy F. McCormack, filed a suit against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

This suit seeks information on the individuals who have already been held for immigration screenings, as well as the process involved in deciding who is held behind for further screenings. This is particularly important as several counties are operating under 287(g) agreements, which allows local law enforcement to take over a job usually intended for the federal government, in this case immigration enforcement.

The suit ultimately looks to hold both the ICE and the local police departments accountable for their potentially discriminatory behavior in their local communities.
