Douglas Y. Christian is a senior insurance advisor and litigator who serves as the Practice Leader of the firm’s Insurance Practice Group. For more than 35 years he has concentrated his practice on insurance advice, negotiation, and, when necessary, litigation, with an emphasis on coverage issues arising under all types of insurance policies. He also has significant experience with matters involving receiverships, captives, reinsurance, and regulatory issues. Recently, Doug has devoted the majority of his time to analysis and advice regarding insurance issues arising in the COVID context. He co-leads the firm’s Coronavirus Legal Team.

Doug has litigated coverage matters for several insurers and has served as national coordinating counsel for claims under a major carrier’s CGL policies. Most recently, on behalf of a large insurer Doug litigated to a successful conclusion noteworthy cases involving insurance coverage for defective concrete in Connecticut. Doug has also served as appellate counsel for insurers or their insureds. He has handled several high-profile issues and lawsuits involving insurance company insolvencies, including disputes arising in the Penn Treaty, American Network, Reliance, Legion, Villanova, First Sealord, and PHICO rehabilitations and liquidations.
