N.C. Panel Rules City Docs Held by 3rd Party Are Public Record

Law360 covered a North Carolina Appeals Court ruling in which Kaitlin Gurney and Lauren Russell attained reversal of a trial court decision, scoring a victory for Gray Media Group, Inc., and its Charlotte TV station. The station appealed after the City of Charlotte denied access to government records because they were in the possession of a consulting firm. The Appeals Court panel ruled that government documents held by a third party are public records under state law and cannot be shielded from review.
