A Reporter Investigated Misconduct. Then the Attacks Began.

When a New York Times reporter wrote about a libel lawsuit against a New Hampshire Public Radio reporter, he asked Chad R. Bowman for perspective on the judge's ruling that the judge be allowed to review transcripts of the journalist's interviews with certain sources, including those who had agreed to be interviewed on the condition of anonymity.

Mr. Bowman, who is not involved in the case, called the ruling "deeply troubling" because the reporter was being asked to provide unpublished materials when the plaintiff had yet to make a viable legal claim.
