Former PA Gov. Edward Rendell to Be Honored by Museum of the American Revolution

June 7, 2022

Ballard Spahr Special Counsel Edward G. Rendell, the former governor of Pennsylvania and mayor of Philadelphia, will receive the Museum of the American Revolution’s inaugural Chairman’s Award in recognition of “his extraordinary volunteer leadership in advancing the Museum’s mission and vision.”

The June 9 event at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia’s historic Old City neighborhood will also feature presentation of the Lenfest Spirit of the American Revolution Award to renowned Harvard University historian, professor, filmmaker, and author Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Opened in 2017, the museum “uncovers and shares compelling stories about the diverse people and complex events that sparked America’s ongoing experiment in liberty, equality, and self-government.” Through exhibits, lectures and discussion, classes and workshops, and an array of in-person and virtual programs, the museum “brings history to life in a unique and powerful way.”

“Since the Museum’s earliest days, Governor Rendell has been a tireless advocate and supporter of the project, playing a leading role in securing its permanent location in Old City Philadelphia and chairing the successful capital campaign that exceeded its $150 million goal by nearly $25 million,” stated an announcement of the first-ever Chairman’s Award, which will be presented by Morris W. Offit, Chair of the museum’s Board of Directors. “A Museum Board member since 2013, Governor Rendell remains actively committed to advancing the Museum’s influence and impact.”

Governor Rendell is a member of Ballard Spahr’s P3/Infrastructure, Government Relations and Public Policy, and Political and Election Law practice groups. Ballard Spahr is a longtime supporter of the Museum of the American Revolution and has played a key role in helping to identify and develop its site and operate the facility and nonprofit organization. Along with Governor Rendell, Ballard Spahr Partner Adrian R. King, Jr., is also a member of the Board, and serves as Secretary.
