Ballard Spahr’s Margie Peerce Honored by Police Athletic League

December 11, 2020

The Police Athletic League, New York City’s largest independent youth development not-for-profit organization, has honored Ballard Spahr Litigation Partner Margie Peerce with its Robert M. Morgenthau Award.

Ms. Peerce, who is Managing Partner for Ballard Spahr’s New York office, as well as a member of its nine-person elected Board, received the award in recognition of her longstanding commitment to New York’s legal community. Among myriad pro bono and bar activities, she is past president of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers and is current co-chair of the Sentencing Committee of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In that capacity, she has served on numerous task forces, including serving on the Steering Committee for Clemency Project 2014, an initiative under the Obama administration to help reduce lengthy sentences for individuals who committed non-violent drug offenses. She is the Chair of the Board of the New York City Bar Association, a member of Ballard Spahr’s Diversity and Inclusion Council, and has been named to its Pro Bono Honor Roll for her work on behalf of those in need of legal services. She received the New York State Bar Association President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the First Judicial District (Manhattan) in 2015. She also serves on the leadership team for Ballard’s Racial Justice and Equality Initiative, formed to address racial and injustice inequity through pro bono litigation.

The Police Athletic League’s award is named for Robert M. Morgenthau who, at the time of his retirement, was the longest-serving district attorney in New York history. Ms. Peerce received the award alongside co-recipient Robert J. Giuffra, Jr., a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell. The award is presented to outstanding leaders in the legal field.
