Shelah Lynn and Emily Vaias Recognized by Maryland Building Industry Association

Ballard Spahr real estate lawyers Shelah F. Lynn and Emily J. Vaias will be honored today by the Maryland Building Industry Association (MBIA) with the 2019 Legislative Award.

The award recognizes MBIA members who have actively participated in the organization’s Legislative Committee or contributed to the association's overall mission by sharing their professional knowledge and experience through testimony at legislative hearings.

Ms. Lynn and Ms. Vaias work with builders and developers in Maryland and the Washington D.C. region. Ms. Lynn has more than 30 years of experience in the real estate industry advising clients on mixed-use projects, condominiums and planned communities, as well as a wide variety of commercial developments. She also helps clients navigate real estate-related litigation claims including those involving construction defects and warranties. For the last 25 years, Ms. Vaias has worked to obtain zoning and regulatory approvals for residential, mixed-use, senior housing, commercial and industrial projects. She also helps clients explore financing options such as PILOT agreements.

Formed in 2014, MBIA is a not-for-profit trade organization that works to advocate for the building industry. It comprises 1,100 member firms and more than 100,000 employees, including home builders, remodelers, and developers in Maryland and Washington, D.C. MBIA is a local chapter of the National Association of Home Builders.
