Jamie K. Major is an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Department and a member of the Mechanical Technologies Team within the Patents Group. Her practice focuses on patent prosecution, both domestic and international, as well as strategic patent portfolio counseling. Jamie has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, preparing freedom to operate, patentability, validity, and non-infringement opinions, and advising clients on post-grant proceedings. She has worked with a wide range of technologies, including mechanical pipe joining systems, fire protection equipment, construction tools and systems, water purification technologies, and medical devices.
Prior to joining Ballard Spahr, Jamie was a licensed professional engineer and practiced civil engineering for over four years. While in law school, she participated in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Experience Extern Program, gaining firsthand exposure to the patent examination process and application of patent laws and guidelines from the examiner’s perspective, and interned at the U.S. International Trade Commission, where she researched legal issues related to Section 337 investigations and drafted internal memoranda analyzing relevant statutes and case law.
