John Engel represents public and private institutions and other lenders, servicers, developers, and property owners in a wide variety of commercial real estate financing, acquisition, and development transactions. John's experience includes representing lenders, originators, and placement agents in structuring, negotiating, and documenting commercial real estate financings, including conventional financings, structured lease-backed financings, multifamily housing financings, preferred equity lending transactions, and construction financings. John also counsels lenders and servicers in assumptions, modifications, defeasances, foreclosures, and workouts. In addition, John represents property owners, developers, and tenants in the acquisition and disposition, development, and leasing of commercial property.

Representative Matters

  • Represented a lender in providing construction and permanent financing for the sale and leaseback of a to-be-constructed corporate headquarters
  • Represented a lender in providing construction and permanent financing for the construction and operation of a new medical office building and parking garage by a regional health system
  • Represented a placement agent in providing financing for the acquisition of a portfolio of office buildings net-leased to subsidiaries of a Fortune 25 company
  • Represented a real estate investor in the acquisition and financing of a 1,700+ unit multifamily housing complex in a major Northeastern city
  • Represented a special servicer in the foreclosure of a 450,000+ rsf mixed-use (office/retail) building in a major Mid-Atlantic city
