Azer Akhtar represents lenders in the financing of multifamily properties located throughout the United States. In this role, Azer primarily represents lenders and GSE loan servicers in the origination, sale, and servicing of commercial real estate loans under Freddie Mac’s CME and TAH product lines; and Fannie Mae’s DUS and MAH product lines. Azer has closed hundreds of transactions, including both conventional and affordable originations, and has extensive experience with financings involving low-income housing tax credits, HAP contracts, preferred equity, ground leases, PILOTs, tax abatements, and the like.

Azer also has experience representing CMBS lenders in connection with commercial real estate loans intended for securitization or sale in the secondary market. Additionally, Azer has represented national lenders in residential real estate foreclosures, real estate-related litigation and related appellate matters.

  • Represented lender in connection with a $36,000,000.00 Fannie Mae DUS loan secured by a multifamily property in Windham, Connecticut that closed in 2 weeks
  • Represented lender in connection with a $121,000,000.00 Freddie Mac CME loan secured by a multifamily property in Somerset County, New Jersey
  • Represented lender in connection with a portfolio of 5 Fannie Mae DUS loans, all of which were structured to assign the existing debt pursuant to CEMAs, secured by multifamily properties in Westchester County, New York
  • Represented lender in connection with a $55,000,000.00 Freddie Mac TAH loan involving preferred equity secured by a multifamily property in Stamford, Connecticut
  • Represented lender in connection with a $8,500,000.00 Fannie Mae DUS loan secured by a cooperative multifamily property in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Represented lender in connection with a $65,000,000.00 Freddie Mac CME loan secured by a multifamily property in Queens, New York, transitioning from the old 421-a tax abatement program to the new 35-year program
  • Represented lender in connection with a pool of 2 Fannie Mae MAH loans involving subordinate debt, moderate rehabilitation, tax abatements and Section 8 HAP Contracts secured by multifamily properties in Denver, Colorado
  • Represented lender in connection with a $73,000,000.00 Freddie Mac CME loan secured by a multifamily property located in Prince George’s County, Maryland
