Angela Christy Receives Distinguished Service Award for Leadership of the Real Estate Institute in Minnesota

Angela M. Christy, senior counsel in Ballard Spahr’s national Real Estate Department, has received the 2026 Distinguished Service Award from the Real Property Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA), in recognition of more than 25 years as Chair of the Real Estate Institute, a highly regarded annual conference.

Considered among the premier professional and continuing legal education (CLE) real estate conferences in the country, the Real Estate Institute is hosted by Minnesota CLE, created by the MSBA to promote CLE. Angela was presented with the Distinguished Service Award at a ceremony during the 2026 Minnesota Real Estate Institute, which drew about 700 attendees to Saint Paul RiverCentre October 22 and 23.

As Chair of the Institute for more than two decades, Angela has played a leading role in planning and presenting at the annual conference for Minnesota real estate attorneys and other professionals. The conference provides timely education, including comprehensive updates on new developments, as well as valuable resource materials and opportunities to connect and reconnect with industry colleagues.

This year, Angela presented “Hot Topics in Real Estate Law” during the plenary session, including covering the 21^st Century ROAD to Housing Act, AI, real estate fraud, and data centers. She also led a breakout session on “Shakespeare and Real Estate Law” and participated on a panel addressing the challenges of mixed-use Common Interest Community (CIC) developments.

Based in Ballard Spahr’s Minneapolis office, Angela has been involved in many bar activities, including the Title Standards Committee, the Uniform Conveyancing Blanks Task Force Committee, and the MSBA Real Property Law Section. She has been a member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, Chair of the MSBA Real Property Law Section, and Chair of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law.

Angela focuses her practice on affordable housing law and provides strategic and creative legal counsel to help drive efficient transactions, with an emphasis on tax credit transactions. She has handled more than 300 Low Income Housing Tax Credit transactions throughout the United States.
