Raymond Truitt Begins Term as President of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers

January 6, 2026

Raymond G. Truitt, senior counsel in Ballard Spahr’s national Real Estate Department, will serve in 2026 as President of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL), a preeminent national association of leading real estate attorneys.

Ray began his one-year term as President on January 1. He has previously served ACREL as President-Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and on the Board of Governors.

Ray is based in Ballard Spahr’s Baltimore office and is known for his work on commercial real estate financing, restructuring, development, and leasing. His new ACREL role is Ray’s latest leadership position in service to the profession, which include having served as Chair of both the Maryland State Bar Association’s Section of Real Property and the Section’s Code Revision Committee. He also served as Chair of the ICSC U.S. Law Conference Program Committee.

ACREL is widely regarded as the premier organization of U.S. real estate lawyers. Admission is by invitation only, based on outstanding legal ability, experience, and high standards of professional and ethical conduct. ACREL presents professional education and networking events, publishes educational and informational materials, and performs public service projects.

“ACREL will be well-served with Ray as President, just as Ballard Spahr was during Ray’s tenure as our Managing Partner for Finance and Operations,” Ballard Spahr Chair Peter Michaud said. “Ray’s judgment, integrity, and business sense come through in everything he does.”

Ray becomes the fourth Ballard Spahr lawyer to serve as ACREL President, extending and expanding the firm’s long tradition of service and leadership in the organization. The previous ACREL Presidents from Ballard Spahr are Roger D. Winston, leader of the firm’s Mixed-Use, Condominium, and Multifamily Development practice, as well as the late Richard R. Goldberg and retired partner Morton P. Fisher, Jr.
