January 28, 2026

Adam Maarec—an attorney with 15 years of experience in consumer financial services regulation, particularly from the CFPB—has rejoined Ballard Spahr’s Business and Transactions Department and Consumer Financial Services Group as counsel, firm Chair Peter Michaud announced today. Adam is a member of the firm’s Banking and Financial Services and Fintech and Payment Solutions Industry Teams and is resident in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

“Adam’s in-depth command of consumer financial services regulation is impressive and very much needed right now,” said John D. Socknat, who co-leads the Consumer Financial Services Group alongside Daniel JT McKenna. “The reason we have a national reputation in this area is because clients know they can turn to us with complex problems, and we’ll have the experience to solve them. Adam brings the talent and background our clients expect from Ballard, and we’re delighted to welcome him to the team.”

Adam works with organizations across the Fintech ecosystem. His clients include banks of all sizes, nonbank lenders and bank partners, digital wallet providers, payments processors, and providers of innovative consumer financial management tools. Over the past decade, he has participated in every step of the rulemaking process for the CFPB’s Rule 1033, which mandates that financial institutions make account data available to consumers for sharing with third parties. Adam previously worked at Ballard Spahr, then served as in-house counsel at Capital One and Wells Fargo, before rejoining the firm.

“Ballard Spahr has a proven track record of helping preeminent clients navigate our complex and rapidly evolving regulatory environment,” Adam said. “Its attorneys are nationally recognized thought leaders with the depth of knowledge, creativity, and capabilities needed to put clients in the best position possible. This firm is an outstanding fit for my practice.”

The attorneys of Ballard Spahr’s Consumer Financial Services Group—more than 70 across the country—advise on regulatory matters, assist in the design and documentation of credit products, and represent clients in class actions, government regulatory enforcement proceedings, and other lawsuits nationwide.
