September 23, 2021

Ballard Spahr’s Justin P. Klein, a respected corporate governance thought leader and adviser, has been named director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware.

A member of the Weinberg Center’s Advisory Board since 2015, Mr. Klein began his new role as director of the Center on September 20. He is senior counsel with national law firm Ballard Spahr, based in the firm’s Philadelphia office, and was a partner at the firm from 1992 through 2019 and senior counsel since that time.

Mr. Klein is well known for his work as a corporate governance counselor, advising publicly and privately held companies on day-to-day corporate governance, securities offerings, and other transactional and disclosure matters. He also represents securities industry firms, including investment banks and broker dealers. Before entering private practice, Mr. Klein served for nine years at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, including as assistant director of the Division of Corporation Finance.

The Weinberg Center is part of the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics. It is one of the longest-standing corporate governance centers in academia, and the first and only corporate governance center in the state of Delaware, the legal home for a majority of the nation’s public corporations.

The Center provides a forum for education and interaction among business leaders, corporate board members, stockholders, the legal community, academics, and students, designed to make a positive impact on the field of corporate governance and the capital markets through programs, publications, and academic research.

“It is a great honor to have been selected director of the Weinberg Center,” Mr. Klein said.
