College student, Andrew Perrong, is taking action against robocalls by regularly suing and gaining settlements from companies that allegedly illegally call him. However, some opposing attorneys are claiming that Mr. Perrong's actions are just traps for "unsuspecting telemarketers and debt collectors."

Ballard Spahr Partner Dan McKenna, who represents a Texas utility that Mr. Perrong recently sued, said, "His litigation history makes plain that he seeks [calls] out and gladly receives them for his next lawsuit. The purpose of such conduct is to make Perrong money."

Mr. Perrong often represents himself in court and utilizes the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, which outlaws auto-dialers and/or those with robo- and prerecorded voices from calling consumers who have not given prior consent to receive calls. The law also requires companies to honor "do not call lists."
