Pharmaceuticals in the workplace have become an increasingly difficult issue for human resources and employers. The state legalization of marijuana for medical reasons, recreational purposes, or both, affect all industries and workplaces. Employers have to determine what they permit employees to do, any internal changes that must be made, and how to be proactive in an area where there is often little legal guidance. Topics include:

  • State legalization of marijuana for medical and/or recreational purposes
  • Federal law regarding marijuana use
  • Legal implications of employee use of marijuana (accommodation issues, medical leave issues, costs to employers, employer policies, testing for impairment)
  • Cognition enhancement drugs in the workplace
  • Health and safety issues
