Generative AI Brings Ethical Concerns, Say Pennsylvania Ethics, Tech Experts

July 18, 2023

Although immediate changes to Pennsylvania ethics rules may not be imminent, generative artificial intelligence raises a host of concerns for practicing attorneys. Justin H. Brown, who chairs the Philadelphia Bar Association’s probate and trust law’s technology committee, spoke to The Legal Intelligencer about some of the risks generative AI raises.

“If the AI is an open-based system, meaning it goes out to the internet, the information goes out to whoever owns that open-based system,” he said. “When we input data into AI we don’t know where the data goes, we don’t know where it’s stored, we don’t know if it’s secured or if it’s stolen down the line.”
