Ballard Spahr's Anna Mahaney Joins American College of Real Estate Lawyers as a Fellow

March 23, 2023

Anna A. Mahaney, a Ballard Spahr partner and co-leader of the firm’s Housing Finance Group, has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL), the preeminent national association of commercial real estate lawyers.

Ms. Mahaney, who is based in Ballard Spahr’s Baltimore office, is among the ACREL Class of 2023 Fellows elected during the College’s recent mid-year meeting. Admission to ACREL is by invitation only after a rigorous screening process. The organization's distinguished, nationally known lawyers have been elected to fellowship based on their outstanding legal ability, experience, contributions to the profession, and high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the practice of real estate law.

Ms. Mahaney practices general real estate law with an emphasis on representing mortgage lenders in commercial real estate financing transactions, including construction, acquisition, refinancing, bridge loans, and permanent financing. Her practice includes representing property owners and developers in finance transactions. She focuses in particular on multifamily, affordable housing, and seniors housing loans.

As a leading national organization, ACREL provides continuing education and networking events, creates and distributes publications on legal topics, plans and executes public service projects, and bestows awards for outstanding service to the organization, profession, and public.

Ballard Spahr is one of the most active firms within ACREL, with a history of membership, service, and leadership within the organization. Raymond G. Truitt, Ballard Spahr’s Managing Partner for Finance and Operations and a real estate partner in the Baltimore office, serves as the organization’s Treasurer. Three Ballard Spahr attorneys have served as ACREL President: Partner Roger D. Winston, leader of the firm’s Mixed-Use, Condominium, and Multifamily Development practice; retired Partner Morton P. Fisher, Jr.; and the late Richard R. Goldberg, a retired partner who also received ACREL's lifetime achievement award and highest honor, the Frederick S. Lane Award. Tina R. Makoulian, a real estate partner in Philadelphia, recently completed a second three-year term on the ACREL Board of Governors.
