Working Mother Names Ballard Spahr a Best Law Firm for Women

September 8, 2020

Ballard Spahr has been named to Working Mother's Best Law Firms for Women list, which recognizes firms that utilize best practices in recruiting, retaining, promoting, and developing women lawyers.

Ballard Spahr was among just 60 firms nationwide to earn a spot on this year’s list. The list was derived from the Working Mother Best Law Firms for Women survey, which includes more than 300 questions about attorney demographics at different levels, schedule flexibility, paid time off and parental leaves, and development and retention of women.

Ballard Spahr’s Attorney Career Advancement team, in conjunction with the Work Life Integration and Ballard Women business resource groups and firm leadership, has developed flex-scheduling and reduced-hour options for lawyers—often working mothers—seeking to improve their work-life integration. The firm also offers parental leave for all new parents.

Ballard Spahr has been honored by publications and community organizations across the country for its efforts to advance women attorneys at the firm and within the legal profession. It was recently recognized in the Yale Law Women’s 2020 Gender Equity & Family Friendliness Report and has been ranked among the best U.S. law firms for women by WomenInc. and Law360.

Women comprise nearly 30 percent of Ballard Spahr’s equity partners, well above the national average. The firm provides professional development support to bolster the trajectory of women into key participation and leadership roles, both within and outside the firm. Ballard Spahr’s wide range of networking, sponsorship, and mentoring programs for women address all career levels. The firm supports its female lawyers through the Ballard Women group, co-chaired by Las Vegas Partner Maria Gall, Minneapolis Partner Nicole R. Hittner, Atlanta Associate Chittam U. Thakore, and Philadelphia Associate Jane Rose Siegfried.
