Ballard Spahr Real Estate Attorneys Matthew McClure and Benjamin Kelley Inducted Into ACREL

Matthew N. McClure and Benjamin A. Kelley, partners in Ballard Spahr’s national Real Estate Department and national Finance Department, respectively, have been elected as Fellows of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL), the preeminent professional association of U.S. real estate attorneys.

Messrs. McClure and Kelley and are among the ACREL Class of 2024 Fellows elected during the College’s mid-year meeting recently in Monterey, California.

Admission to ACREL is by invitation only after a rigorous screening process. The organization’s distinguished, nationally known lawyers have been elected based on their outstanding legal ability, experience, contributions to the profession, and high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the practice of real estate law.

ACREL presents continuing educational and networking events, creates and distributes publications on legal topics, plans and executes public service projects, and bestows awards for outstanding service to the organization, profession, and public.

Mr. McClure is leader of the firm’s Zoning and Land Use practice. He counsels developers, nonprofits, universities, and other businesses and institutions on a full range of real estate matters. His practice emphasizes development, land use, zoning, and historic preservation matters, including for significant urban redevelopment efforts with high-profile historic preservation and other issues. He also represents clients in land use appellate matters, with an outstanding track record of success.

Mr. Kelley co-leads the firm’s Insurance Company and Institutional Investments practice. He counsels clients in all aspects of real estate-related legal matters, with a primary emphasis on representing both lenders and borrowers in commercial real estate finance transactions. His diverse practice also includes representing real estate owners and developers in soup-to-nuts, ground-up real estate disposition, development, and joint venture transactions, as well as commercial property owners and tenants in commercial leasing matters.

Ballard Spahr is one of the most active firms within ACREL, with a history of membership, service, and leadership within the organization—including 18 current ACREL Fellows. Raymond G. Truitt serves as the organization’s Vice President. Three Ballard Spahr attorneys have served as ACREL President: Partner Roger D. Winston, leader of the firm’s Mixed-Use, Condominium, and Multifamily Development practice; retired Partner Morton Fisher, Jr.; and the late Richard R. Goldberg. Both Mr. Fisher and Mr. Goldberg also received ACREL's lifetime achievement award and highest honor, the Frederick S. Lane Award.
