Raymond G. Truitt, an attorney known for his work on commercial real estate financing, leasing, development, and restructuring, has been elected secretary of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL), a national association of approximately 1,000 distinguished real estate lawyers.
A partner based in Ballard Spahr’s Baltimore office, Mr. Truitt serves as the firm’s Managing Partner of Finance and Operations, a member of the Executive Team of its Management Committee, and a member of its Diversity Council.
As ACREL secretary, Mr. Truitt continues his leadership role with the organization, having been elected last year to the Board of Governors. In addition to his work with ACREL, Mr. Truitt is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and served as Chair of both its Section of Real Property and the Section’s Code Revision Committee. He is also a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, for which he acted as Chair of its 2014 U.S. Law Conference.
ACREL is widely regarded as the premier organization of U.S. real estate lawyers. Admission is by invitation only after a rigorous screening process. The organization's distinguished, nationally known lawyers have been elected to fellowship for their outstanding legal ability, experience, and high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the practice of real estate law. ACREL presents professional education seminars and conferences, holds networking events, publishes articles and other educational and informational materials, and performs public service projects.
Ballard Spahr has a long tradition of leadership in ACREL, including having three partners serve as presidents of the College: the late Richard R. Goldberg, retired partner Morton P. Fisher, Jr., and Roger D. Winston, leader of the firm’s Mixed-Use, Condominium, and Multifamily Development practice. Tina R. Makoulian, leader of the firm’s Real Estate Development and Transactions Group, is serving her second three-year term on the ACREL Board of Governors.
