President-Elect Biden announced the addition of Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) as senior advisor to the President. Rep. Richmond will assist with outreach to the House of Representatives, a side of the Hill largely foreign to Biden. The turnover in the House since Biden left the Senate in 2009 means there are nearly 200 new members who have never worked with Biden as VP or Senator. Richmond’s ties with Capitol Hill will provide Biden with an insight into Congress, especially as Republicans expand their ranks. Richmond’s relationships will help with many factions, such as the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and even across the aisle. He also worked closely with Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) at home in Baton Rouge when they both served as state house representatives.
