Joe Slaughter is a business litigator whose experience spans a broad array of commercial cases, with a focus on First Amendment issues and media and entertainment disputes. He has represented media and entertainment clients in cases involving defamation, technology-related copyrights, Freedom of Information Act issues, and contractual disputes. In addition to his media and entertainment practice, Joe has litigated on behalf of clients in a diverse array of businesses, including real estate development, investment management, and health care. He also has substantial experience in a wide variety of substantive areas of law, including white collar disputes and investigations, antitrust matters, bankruptcy, litigation, IP, and general commercial litigation.

Prior to joining Ballard Spahr, Joe served as a law clerk in federal court in Washington, D.C., and was associated with the firms Boies, Schiller & Flexner and Kobre & Kim.

Joe has an active pro bono practice representing artists and journalists in contract negotiations. He has also represented incarcerated individuals in civil rights litigation and detained immigrants in asylum proceedings.
