Jacquelyn N. Schell is an associate in the firm's Litigation Department. She focuses on First Amendment litigation, representing media and non-media clients in matters including defamation, libel, right of publicity, press access, and reporters' privilege. Jacquelyn has also represented clients in commercial litigation, defended against regulatory and criminal claims, and conducted internal investigations.

Jacquelyn previously served as a Special Assistant District Attorney in the Cobb County District Attorney's Office in Georgia, where she prosecuted felony crimes.

Representative Matters

  • Defended online dating application against claims by former user based on ex-boyfriend's use of the application to harass him
  • Successfully challenged New York County Clerk's press access policy on First Amendment grounds and obtained preliminary injunction that led to multi-county change in access to newly filed civil complaints
  • Obtained dismissal and successfully defended Sixth Circuit appeal of libel and invasion of privacy claims against Google under the Communications Decency Act
  • Defended corporate whistleblower against defamation claims by former employer; prepared whistleblower to testify in FTC enforcement action and negotiated immunity from DOJ for testimony
