William B. Igoe represents clients in high stakes litigation involving the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), federal and state securities laws, as well as in commercial and fiduciary litigation.

Representative Matters

RICO Litigation

  • Won motion to dismiss a class action alleging RICO fraud against a real estate investment fund arising out of the fund’s investment in 13 resort development projects. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the dismissal.
  • Won summary judgment on behalf of a real estate investment fund sued for alleged RICO fraud in connection with its investment in a Bahamian resort development
  • Represents a multinational pharmaceutical corporation accused of violating RICO in connection with the manufacturing and sale of pharmaceuticals

Commercial Litigation

  • Served as trial counsel for a former corporate director in a four-day Delaware Chancery Court trial alleging breach of fiduciary duty.
  • Obtained a complete defense verdict ina  five-day Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas trial on behalf of real estate developer accused of fraud and breach of contract in connection with the purchase of development assets
  • Defended a leading provider of cable, internet, and telephone services in a breach of contract action filed by a television network

Fiduciary Litigation

  • In a will contest, won summary judgment on behalf of three charitable beneficiaries against allegations that the will at issue was procured by fraud and undue influence
  • Represented the executors of the will of a prominent Philadelphian against allegations of breach of fiduciary duty and self-dealing

Securities Litigation

  • Represented an individual in an SEC investigation relating to the acquisition and subsequent bankruptcy of a publicly-traded company. The SEC did not take any action against the individual.
  • Defended an individual in a private securities litigation alleging fraud relating to the securitization of agricultural interests in Brazil 
  • Represented an individual and corporate defendant in an SEC litigation alleging a Ponzi scheme relating to foreign currency trading
  • Defended the officers and directors of a mutual insurance company with a subsidiary stock insuance company in a lawsuit challenging a merger. We defeated a motion to enjoin the merger. After a timely merger, the new parent company settled the case.
