Kyle A. DeThomas' practice focuses primarily on land use/zoning, construction, and development of multifamily and condominium properties. He has experience in a broad range of real estate matters, including financing (construction, loan origination and servicing), environmental laws, and corporate due diligence. Kyle drafts and negotiates single-asset and corporate-level credit facilities, purchase and sale agreements, leases, and property management agreements.

As a law clerk for the City of Chicago's Building and License Enforcement Division, Kyle drafted complaints and court orders addressing properties that failed to meet code requirements or presented a safety hazard to the community.

Prior to entering law school, Kyle served as a Captain and civil engineer in the U.S. Air Force during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan following his graduation from the Air Force Academy.

Recent Representative Matters

  • Representing an institutional lender in a $267 million mortgage loan secured by a portfolio of Hilton Doubletree and Marriott hotels located in Nashville, New Orleans, and St. Louis
  • Representing a performing rights organization and a nonprofit think-tank in the negotiation of new headquarters leases (each 50,000 square feet) at the World Trade Center complex in New York City and the NoMa area of Washington, D.C., respectively
  • Representing a publicly owned real estate company in the negotiation of an EB-5 intercreditor agreement in connection with the $1.8 billion in construction financing for a 2.8 million square foot office tower in Hudson Yards in New York City
  • Representing private equity companies in connection with the acquisition and leaseback of an office complex with 28 acres of undeveloped land in Reston, Virginia, and the refinancing of a 389-condo development in Washington, D.C.
  • Representing an institutional lender in a $600 million construction financing for a mixed-use development in Brooklyn, N.Y., and in a $327 million financing for the adaptive re-use and condominium conversion of the historic Tribune Tower in Chicago
  • Representing a global real estate investment firm in a $117 million portfolio refinancing secured by approximately 1,000 single-family homes located in the greater Atlanta, Dallas, and Nashville metro areas
