William Burton is an associate in the Litigation Department. He practices complex commercial litigation with experience in cases concerning fiduciary duties, mergers and acquisitions, corporate control disputes, and breach of contract claims. William represents clients in both state and federal courts—primarily the Delaware Court of Chancery and the District Court for the District of Delaware. 

William has experience assisting clients with white collar criminal defense including conducting internal investigations, responding to subpoenas for documents and testimony, cooperating with ongoing investigations, and making presentations to the U.S. Department of Justice prior to indictment. William's white collar practice includes matters involving allegations of health care fraud and violations of the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, and Anti-Money Laundering/Bank Secrecy Act among other fraud and regulatory offenses. William also has experience drafting policies regarding the above mentioned fraud and regulatory offenses.

Pro Bono Experience

William's pro bono work includes matters involving prisoners' rights in Delaware and assisting with applications for asylum to the United States.

Judicial Clerkship and Internship

In 2013 to 2014, William served as Judicial Intern to the Honorable Chief Magistrate Judge Mary Pat Thynge of the Federal District Court for the District of Delaware. From 2014 to 2015 William served as a Josiah Oliver Wolcott Fellow to the Honorable Karen L. Valihura of the Delaware Supreme Court and the American Bar Association Model Business Corporation Act Fellow, where he performed research on corporate laws throughout the country. In 2015 to 2016, William served as law clerk to the Honorable M. Jane Brady in the Delaware Superior Court.
